Situated in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula, the plateau of La Mancha is the home land of the most famous character in Spanish literature: Don Quixote de La Mancha. This Castilian plain is the venue for the adventures of the old knight in his journey through the paths, farmlands and windmills which still today look like giants when we spot them on top of the rolling hills of the La Mancha landscapes.

At first sight, the big plateau of La Mancha is one of the most homogeneous regions in Spain, due to the lack of a high relief. However, the territory in La Mancha holds a number of hidden places of great natural beauty and ecological interest. Wetlands like Lagunas de Ruidera and Las Tablas de Daimiel or gorges excavated by rivers like the Hoces del Cabriel, are part of the large protected area of Natural Parks in Castilla La Mancha.

The Autonomous Community of Castilla La Mancha is divided into five provinces: Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara and Toledo; all of them with a particular character and an important cultural heritage that reveals a millenary occupation of the land. Numerous routes offer the possibility of exploring the area, basing on historical cities with impressive historical centres and, at the same time, with modern infrastructures for accommodation and leisure in general.

Castilla La Mancha has eight Paradors, which are first class establishments normally housed in historical buildings or places of cultural or natural interest. Besides, because of its central situation in Spain, the hotels in Castilla La Mancha are specialised in events and celebrations, standing out for the quality of its facilities and services.

The region surprises by the large amount of tourist routes it has, some of remaining unknown by the general public but running through lands with beautiful landscapes such as the wetlands, the karstic relieves formed by limestone or cities declared World Heritage like Toledo and Cuenca.

The region can be reached by air, thanks to the good links with the Madrid-Barajas Airport or by high speed train (AVE) with calls in Ciudad Real and Puertollano. The National Road N-IV is the major way between the centre and the south of Spain. Anytime is a good moment to visit Castilla La Mancha, due to the variety of its territory which guarantees different possibilities in every season.
